Chronic Leukemia Treatment

There are two main types of chronic leukemia. Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) & Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL). Chronic Myeloid Leukemia originates in the bone marrow's myeloid cells, which give rise to various types of blood cells, including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. In CML, a genetic abnormality known as the Philadelphia chromosome results in the overproduction of an abnormal protein called BCR-ABL, leading to uncontrolled growth of white blood cells. Whereas, CLL affects the lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell involved in the body's immune response. In CLL, abnormal lymphocytes accumulate in the blood and bone marrow, interfering with normal blood cell production.
