Leukemia
Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is a cancer of white blood cells where a patient presents with high blood cell counts and low platelets. Patients present with fever, bleeding in the form of gum bleeds, and rash. Blood investigations reveal the presence of blasts in the blood and a Bone marrow examination is performed to do further tests. Patients are given induction chemotherapy followed by high-dose chemotherapy or stem cell transplant.
Leukemia is a cancer of the body's blood-forming tissues, including the bone marrow and the lymphatic system. Many types of leukemia exist. Some forms of leukemia are more common in children. Other forms of leukemia occur mostly in adults. Leukemia usually involves the white blood cells.
